Church St. Martin in Kobilje

The elongated village is placed on both banks of the Kobilijanski potok brook and its houses are built along two roads. The village is the same time also Slovenia s smallest municipality. Its bouts is the is the St. Martin s Church built in line with Jandl s plans in 1926 as a sigle-naved historical building with  a five-lateral presbytery. The windows are glazed with high-quility stained glass dating back to 1972. thes were made following the concept of formally trained painter Stane Kregar.

Bats also found their refuge in the church belfry where common bat females found sufficient peace to deliver and raise their offspring. They are gathered in large numbers, but unfortunately they are the only maternity colony in north-eastern Slovenia. A checker tree hat is unique in Slovenia, can be found in a small park by the church. The tree is held in high esteem in Kobilje as its leaft is the symbol of the municipal coat-of arms. Locals erected a bronze bus tof their compatriot vicar Pavel Berden (1915-1981) by the church in 1955. The bust was created by formally trained sculptor Mirko Bratuša, born  in Ritlop̕ s house not far from the church which was restored and turned in town̕ s visitor centre. In 212 European founds were used to build a cultural centre with  the intention of bringing people living by the border together.
